This weekend we took Harper on her first vacation! My parents bought a cabin in the White Mountains about 22 years ago. It is a favorite destination for us all and it holds numerous memories. Now our kids are starting to enjoy it and I can only dream of all the fun yet to come in that barn-shaped cabin!
The best part of the weekend was that we got to spend it with Grandma Barbara and Grandpa Pop who are in route back to Tucson after 4 months in Michigan.
We left on Thursday morning (after a slight delay due to my passenger window not going up) and had a relatively uneventful drive. For the 2 hour drive to Globe we were telling Shyla that when we got there we were going to eat McDonalds and have play-time in the playground. That promise is what kept the whining to a minimum. When we got to Globe we ate McDonalds but they got rid of the playground. Oops! Oh well, there's not much that an ice cream sundae can't fix for a 2 year old. And even though I swore I would never give my kids a DVD player for a car-ride, we gave her a DVD player and 99 minutes of Yo Gabba Gabba and it was like a gift from heaven. (Isn't it amazing what we say we will "never do" as parents, before actually becoming parents?)
The rest of the family came Friday. Here are some pics from the trip:
It was a truly awesome weekend! We had a blast and we had lots of uninterrupted family time! The kids behaved themselves really well and we are so happy to be building more memories!

Fun!
I also was of the opinion that my children would look out the window and appreciate nature while we discussed something important and/or played car games. Then Spencer screamed at the top of his lungs for 2 hours straight every single time we drove to Tucson for 15 months. So we bought a DVD player and saved our lives, his life, Ginger's life, our sanity and our marriage.
What great pictures! Looks like everyone had a wonderful weekend! :)
I'm sensing some awesome holiday cards this year....these are great! I am just loving Shyla's longer hair and bangs too! Playdate coming up?
These pictures are great, Kendra! Someone is getting awfully savvy behind the camera = ) Sounds, and looks, like a wonderful weekend to remember.
GREAT weekend! Thanks for being a great photographer and an even better sister :)
