Sleepless in San Diego

Stevie's family spend almost every 4th of July in La Jolla, CA and we have joined them almost every year.

We left Friday morning at 3:15 AM. Our plan was that we would pour Shyla into her car-seat and she would sleep until Yuma. It was a beautiful plan and it pretty much worked! As we were putting Shyla into her car-seat, though, she sneezed. A simple sneeze is not usually a big deal, unless your name is Shyla "ear-infection" Forgacs. More on that later...

We stopped at Carl's Jr in Yuma so Shyla could play for about an hour. She was a very happy girl!
She drank all her milk before playing!

But as we got back on the road she must have been hungry because she decided to eat her toes.
When we arrived in La Jolla we spent some time playing in the beautiful condo that Steve and Pat rented.

Friday night we tried to put Shyla to bed at her normal bed-time but she was resisting. Big time. And she was coughing. And her nose was running. And she was couldn't get comfortable.

We ended up in Urgent Care at 2:30 AM (side note: the La Jolla Urgent Care is the nicest one around) and, sure enough, she had ear infection #7. We got her antibiotic and pedialite and headed home. It was a sleepless night; the only rest she got was laying on my chest.

As she started feeling a little better she still refused to sleep in her crib so every night was spent tossing and turning and rolling and snoring in between me and Stevie. Thus, sleepless in San Diego.
But, we did have some fun. Here she is with Grandma Forgacs at the park.

And with Aunt Kirsten and Grandma/Grandpa.

And with me and Aunt Kirsten.

And just hanging out sitting in lawn chairs with Daddy.

We also played on a playground.

And took a family picture.

When we returned we took her to see Dr. Vondrak and her ear was still infected 4 days later! He switched her antibiotic and has referred us to a different ENT than we saw before. I will keep you updated on how that goes. For now, we are pushing the liquids and rest and trying to get our little sweet pea back to her normal happy self.

Great post! Pretty much covered it and I am glad that there was at least some fun in the sun. BTW, Pat looks beautiful in that picture!

Have you thought about just asking Shyla to stop getting ear infections? Oh, you have? Shoot, then I'm out of ideas... turns out, I'm barely a doctor at all!

You poor things, all of you, of course, except maybe Stevie if he slept through the night? Can they just sew her ears closed? Oh, that's not good...maybe she needs allergy shots like me? In any case, they WERE beautiful photos. Heard you were catching something too. Did you? All 3 of us were sick in KY, with Soren feeling the best...
