This past week was a lot of fun for Shyla! She got to put her uniform aside for the week as she chose to participate in spirit week. As you scroll through please understand that I took each picture before I left each morning so she might now have been quite ready for school as she leaves with Stevie about 30 minutes later.
MONDAY: Patriotic Day
TUESDAY: Tacky Tuesday
WEDNESDAY: Superhero Day (after mass)
FRIDAY: Character Day

The girls and I spent the morning at TMC's Annual Event: Be Safe Saturday! We were there for nearly 4 hours! It was exhausting and hot - but a lot of fun and we came home with a lot of cool stuff!
Trying to recall everything we did/got:
- Teeth cleaning and fluoride
- Jumping castle obstacle course
- FREE booster seat for Shyla
- FREE bike helmets for both girls
- Fire safety songs with Fireman Bill (see pictures below - both girls got on stage!! Harper went a 2nd time to play a game with a fire alarm…she didn't win but they let her choose a teddy bear anyway!)
- BTO yogurt and FREE ice cream (actually, the yogurt was the only thing I paid for all day and since BTO is owned by the family of one of my students, we will always support them!)
- FREE mini soccer balls, sunglasses, chapstick, cinch bags, turtle hats, fingerprint kit, rubber duckies, water squirters, and a hardback book about water safety
- The girls are also in a raffle for an IPAD and a different raffle for a new bike. If they win, you will definitely hear about it!
We also ran into Auntie Beth & Sadie and McGruff the Crime Dog!
Such a cool event and a great way to spend a Saturday morning! We will definitely be returning for next year.

We are back from vacation and back to reality. Shyla is back in school but Harper is off so I'm mostly working from home this week. On Tuesday, after taking Shyla to school we accomplished quite a bit! We got the oil changed, went to the bank, got our nails done, went home to do some work, went to Target and only forgot one thing, then picked Shyla up! Phew! Stay tuned for more from the rest of the week's adventures!
My dad does not like to leave the island once here but somehow we talked him into a day at Sea World! I had gotten 4 free passes by being an AZ Educator and my dad's friend had a discount on the other 3 tickets so we packed up both cars are headed off! It was a great day! It was hot and sunny and we stayed from 10am-7pm and I can truly say that the kids got the full experience of Sea World!
We saw three shows: the dolphin show, the pets show, and of course the killer whale show. For the whale show we sat in the soak zone and man did we get soaked! Shyla and Zackary loved the Journey to Atlantis ride and Harper and Lilly loved the rides is Sesame Street Place.
It was an expensive and exhausting day but it was SO MUCH fun!

A day at the beach!
We spent a few hours at the beach, watching the kids run into and out of the waves. The water was cold but they all got in and played. They lasted a lot longer than anyone thought they would have. (BTW - Harper is going through a phase in which she doesn't like to smile for posed pictures. She is choosing to either look mad or make a really funny face.)
Later in the afternoon Uncle Dan and Auntie Erin came for a visit! We loved catching up with them and the kids had even orchestrated a mini-surprise-shower since Baby Gunning will be arriving in June. It's always so great to see them and all the kids, but especially our two, feel so loved by them. We spent some time at the candy store, then Star Park, had a yummy dinner, then a trip to Moo Time. Oh yeah, the evening was complete after the UA beat Oregon to win the Pac 12 Championship but the only 2 to stay awake until the end were Grandpa and Zac!

Another successful day of vacation! We hung-out and took our time in the morning then headed out for an adventure. Although we didn't buy anything from the candy shop, it's always an attention getter to stop and look in the window. We walked to the Hotel Del then rode the city bus to the Ferry Landing. After a yummy lunch we made the long walk to the playground under the bridge before catching the bus back again. At that point, everyone was exhausted so I made a very necessary stop to purchase Big Hero 6 and an Iced Coffee before turning in for the evening.

GOOD NEWS! We found a new place to stop in Yuma! A really clean, nice Chick-Fil-A which is on the correct side of the street AND there is a drive-thru Starbucks right next door! Score!
Anyway, we arrived to our happy place at about 5pm. Grandma and Grandpa and Lilly and Zackary had arrived about an hour before. Even though it was getting late, we all needed some fresh air and some time to move around and stretch, so we headed to Star Park. We played follow-the-leader, freeze tag, and a number of other games that only the kids seemed to understand. Oh, and a riveting game of hide-and-go-seek. As you can see from the pictures below, Harper is much better at hiding than grandpa. It was a great first night and we are looking forward to lots more fun!

Shyla woke up with a headache this morning that quickly resulted in her vomiting. Poor baby! I stayed home with her while Stevie took Harper to school. Later, after more headaches and more vomiting, and after Harper got home from school, we ate a bland dinner of grilled cheese and apple slices. I wanted Shy to get some Vitamin D and fresh air, so we ate in the backyard and had a quasi-picnic. Hopefully she will be better tomorrow, fingers crossed!
We just finished up a GREAT but really busy weekend! Stevie's friend, Charles, got married. Unfortunately I took no pictures of Charles or the wedding or the rehearsal dinner. But, because of the wedding, Comron and Carrie were in town from Ohio with their precious 10 week of baby boy, Eddison. It was so great to catch-up with them! When they lived here we saw them quite frequently and even were on a bowling team together and had Big Brother Nights! It's hard for me to believe that Carrie has been gone from Tucson for five years already! Anyway, after the wedding festivities were over, we spent Sunday morning at Sabino Canyon for a beautiful hike! In hindsight we went about 10 minutes to far and that led to some whining as we were almost back, but it was a great morning with good exercise, good company, and good weather. Oh, yeah, and that gila monster!
